Statement on Hurricane Melissa

Our hearts are broken by the devastating impact Hurricane Melissa has had on Jamaica.

As Jamaican-Canadians living abroad, we feel this deeply — our families, our friends, our culture, and our roots are hurting. In response, we’ve been actively connecting with our trusted community partners back home, offering support and making donations to help with urgent relief efforts.

We invite you to join us. Please take a moment to explore the organizations we collaborate with and give what you can. Every contribution, no matter the size, makes a real difference in helping Jamaica rebuild and recover.

We also recognize that moments of crisis can give space for misinformation and harmful narratives. It’s important to stay conscious of where news is coming from and to rely on reporting that is grounded in accuracy and respect. We trust the work of The Narwhal and encourage you to read their coverage of the efforts of our international community. See this link.
